This cookie remembers if the home page has been opened in the last 24 hours. If first visit, or longer than 24 hours, the Emergency Home Page Popup shows. This is an essential cookie used only when emergency situations arise.
googtrans: This third party session cookie stores the translation preference: it contains translation languages, for example '/en/it (English to Italian)', and expires when you close your browser.
This cookie will not be stored if you do not use the Google Translate feature.

The map, shown on the right side of the home page, uses a third party session cookie called qos_token.
Open Street Map, who provide the mapping service, have stated that 'all the cookies we use clearly fall under the 'information society service' exemptions including the qos_token cookie which serves as a session cookie for visitors of openstreetmap.org so that we can provide a better UI experience (faster loading tiles)'.
SearchIQ is used for in-site searching ('Search this website' box). The SearchIQ cookies are used to remember in-site searches and search position. The 'cfduid' cookie is set by the CloudFlare service to identify trusted web traffic and to speed up page load times and the '_ga' cookie is used by GA to distinguish users.
All videos, such as YouTube and Vimeo, have their cookies disabled within the code, therefore they do not use any cookies.
